About

I lead the Lightweight Design and Simulation Group at the Structural Composites Unit, where I leverage advanced expertise in polymer-based composite Additive Manufacturing to drive innovation in innovative, lightweight, mult-ifunctional and sustainable composite structures. My academic background spans a habilitation in Polymer Processing (Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria), a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), an MSc in Chemical Engineering (UC Louvain, Belgium), an MSc in Food Sciences, and a BSc in Biosystems Engineering (University of Manitoba, Canada). I am authorised to supervise doctoral candidates since I hold an ADR from the University of Luxembourg. My current research focuses on how additive manufacturing affects the performance of composite structures, its potential for recycling applications, and its ability to create lightweight, multi-functional, and sustainable products. In addition to my research, I serve as Editor for Progress in Additive Manufacturing and as National Delegate for ISO Technical Committee 261 (ISO/TC 261), which oversees standardization in additive manufacturing.

Mission

My duties at LIST include: • Lead a team of researchers specialising in lightweight design, topology optimisation, multi-scale and multi-physics modelling, and AI-assisted process and composite development. • Oversee projects and work packages focused on the additive manufacturing of composites. • Establish collaborations with researchers both within and outside the organisation. • Write scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals and conferences. • Supervise interns and doctoral students throughout their thesis projects.

Skills and expertise

  • Polymer-based materials for additive manufacturing
  • Polymer chemistry and processing : development of new materials and processing for new sustainable solutions
  • Polymer / composite blending and compatibilization
  • Design for additive manufacturing
