TREBS Ivonne

About

I am passionate to explore land-atmosphere exchanges of atmospheric constituents and to assess air quality and its effect on ecosystems. My scientific career started with investigating the interfaces of different environmental compartments where chemical, physical and biological processes take place. This included studying the formation of fine particles from ammonia and the dry deposition of reactive N compounds in tropical and temperate ecosystems. Nowadays my focus lies on mitigating the effects of air pollution on the biosphere, while also considering direct pollutant emissions from agricultural ecosystems, urban areas, and industrial locations. On my journey, I provided service for science by leading the Observatory for Climate and Environment at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), which allowed me to gain insights into critical zone research and hydrology. This extended my interdisciplinary profile and I also learned how to support policy and work with national authorities. I strongly believe that the outputs of fundamental science can only be valorised through participatory approaches and stakeholder involvement to address the grand environmental challenges that our society faces today and in the future.
