HADJ SASSI Mohamed Saifeddine

About

Saif is a researcher in the Visualisation and Interaction Group, working on mixed reality interfaces for safety-critical, industrial, and clinical contexts, from training firefighters to managing complex industrial systems. He holds two PhDs: one in Applied Electronics from Università degli Studi Roma Tre, on AR/VR systems for operative control rooms, and one in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Sfax, on IoT and AI for indoor air quality monitoring. He carried out his first PhD as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN fellow within the ImmerSAFE project, working at Leonardo SpA in Rome on simulation-based VR training with the Italian Fire Academy, and at Roma Tre in collaboration with Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, where he developed VR systems for shoulder and upper-limb rehabilitation. During the same period, he spent a research stay at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), contributing to design guidelines for immersive first-responder training. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Luxembourg, where he teaches Human-Centered Design.

Mission

Since joining LIST in 2022, Saif has been working on RISARX, an FNR-funded project focused on augmented reality systems for hazard training, tracking physical objects and radiation emissions in real time to prepare first responders and military teams for radiological incidents. In 2024, he joined CACTUS, a collaboration with Waagner-Biro Stage Systems S.A. funded in part by Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy under the RDI law. He also works on the integration of LLM-driven AR avatars that act as on-scene assistants for operators during complex industrial tasks. Across these projects, Saif designs and runs workshops and evaluation studies with end users, including operators, first responders, and trainees, to assess the usability and effectiveness of the systems developed. He has presented this work at international venues including the European Commission's VR Days 2025 session in Brussels and the European Investment Bank's Innovate Days 2025.
