I am a computational microbiologist and bioinformatician with a strong background in multi-omics data integration and microbial community analysis. My research focuses on developing and applying integrated metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, and metaproteomic approaches to understand how complex microbial ecosystems function, respond to disturbance, and can be harnessed for biotechnological applications. I obtained my BSc in Molecular Life Sciences from the University of Hamburg, followed by an MSc in Integrated Systems Biology and a PhD in Biology, both from the University of Luxembourg, where I worked at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) in the group of Prof. Paul Wilmes. After postdoctoral positions at the University of Luxembourg (LCSB) and the Laboratoire National de Santé (LNS), I joined the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) in 2021, where I work as an R&T Scientist in the Microbiology Biotechnology group.
At LIST, I contribute to the scientific activities of the Environmental and Industrial Biotechnologies unit at the intersection of experimental microbiology and computational biology. My primary focus is on the development and application of computational workflows for the characterisation of complex microbial communities in environmental and industrial systems, including anaerobic digesters, bioreactors, and wastewater treatment plants. I contribute to the design and execution of research projects, the supervision of junior researchers, and the development of reproducible bioinformatic analysis pipelines. I also engage in collaborative research with national and international partners, including contributions to projects on environmental pathogen surveillance (wastewater-based epidemiology) and microbial community functional analysis.
